School, first day

In our little world of PNG, we have volunteer teachers who  pay their own way to PNG to teach our missionary kids.  Grades 1-8 are at the elementary with Diane.  We are fortunate to have returning teachers this year, and that is a blessing.

Our high school is independent study with a teacher to help answer questions and record grades, give tests and keep the kids out of trouble.  :) Rachel is teaching the high school.

Diane is still in the states on furlough, she will get back at the end of Sept.  Al needed to get started on school, so Rachel is teaching the 7th graders until Diane gets back.

I am home schooling Em for 4th grade and Liv for K.  It is a different schedule for me and I don’t plan to go and help at the hospital for awhile to focus on teaching my young ones!

I am not a teacher, but I do enjoy the time with my girls.

More fun

IMG_2652There is a little, tiny, park that we always try and visit and everyone enjoys.  That is something we miss from America…PARKS!

Swimming at Garoka

3 hours of driving, brings us to Garoka (150 K) and we have convinced ourselves that it is warmer there.  Therefore, the water at the local hotel is warmer in the swimming pool!  The clouds did not seem to participate in our fun, as they kept hiding the sun whenever we were near the water.IMG_2627 IMG_2631 IMG_2633 IMG_2638 IMG_2676 IMG_2687

On the road

Bright and early, at Kudjip Hospital, Aug 19th, you would find 2 guys working hurriedly to finish the roof rack on our new turbo Landcruiser.  It is a much nicer ride for long trips because 2 rows of seats are forward facing.

IMG_2616 We packed up, loaded up, and headed out about 9am.  We had snacks for the road and made our traditional stops at a hotel 1 hour away for bathroom and backside break.IMG_2617 At the top of the mountain pass, we bought (as Dooley custom) flower rings and posed at the over look for pictures.

Nick and Charlotte came along, Charlotte is a UK medical student and Nick was making the luggage rack, along with Jordan… IMG_2621 Jordan and Rachel.  Rachel just started her second year of teaching our missionary kids.IMG_2623

And us, do you notice how tall Allison is?  This was Em’s actual birthday and her birthday outfit.

More playing at the river

#10 birthday for Em

While in the states, we try to make a trip to Party City, and pick 2 years worth of birthday supplies for the girls.  Emma decided on a Dog party.

IMG_2571 IMG_2576 Saturday the 14th was the decided time, the cake is a paw print, can you tell?IMG_2577 IMG_2578 IMG_2581 Al and Liv gave Emma a box full of dogs, dog toys, dog beds, and even pooper scoopers.  IMG_2583 IMG_2589 IMG_2597 After cake, we all headed to the river and played games there, followed by building a dam to stop the river.  Across the river, during the party, there was a mama pig and 4 baby pigs playing.  It seems that pigs are not normal party guests, but they left without making a mess.

Thank you Lord for 10 wonderful years with Emma.IMG_2599

Tubing

I think that I have already blogged about tubing…but here is another as this is a favorite summer activity.  And when I say summer, I mean the months with no school and more volunteers.  IMG_2544 IMG_2546 IMG_2550 We walk up river to the starting point.

The river is a little rough for non swimmers, so the little ones stay back and just enjoy playing in the river and trying to stay warm.IMG_2552 IMG_2561 Copper loves the river and runs around like crazy!

Allie going over a few little “rapids”.IMG_2562 IMG_2564 Jordan was kindly Em’s safety buddy and kept her alive while tubing.IMG_2569

Jonathan carried everyone home. As school starts on the 23rd, we are shoving all the excitement in each day that we can.
