First day of School!!!! 2011

IMG_5933 IMG_5946 IMG_5955 IMG_5939 Gulp!  Doesn’t this one just get you right there?  Wow!  First time all 3 are out of the house M-F, 8-3.  IMG_5960 IMG_5965

I am teaching Em and another girl at the MK school>  The other mom and I are trading off day.

I came home from the first day exhausted.  Even though teaching at the MK school is easier because I am only teaching not juggling laundry, phone calls, visitors, cooking, cleaning…..

Scott was on call, was gone most of the night.  I heard him leave at 4am, and he wasn’t there when my alarm didn’t go off this morning.  We all got up at 7am, and were out the door at 7:45!  Phew, that was a challenge in it’s self.

Olivia was the first one ready this morning with her book bag, lunch, jacket, and shoes all lined up by the door.  This was her first full day of school.

Al’s first day at the “high school” where there is more independent study, some of the subjects, she is waiting on her classmate to come back to start.  Her favorite subject today was German with Aunt Janet.

Em and I got along fine and are excited about 5th grade.

Back to school shopping

I ordered 6 dresses on line, had them sent to my mom and then mom mailed them over to us.  To supplement those dresses, we go to used clothing areas, and see what great finds we can get.

Then school supplies, a friend is mailing some over, but they are yet to arrive.

IMG_5857 IMG_5913 IMG_5914 I went to this lovely stationary supply store, and got some notebooks. No real tape, no 3 hole punch, no folders, no cute little boxes to hold pencils.  Many on the things on the shelves were new stock.  So when I wanted to buy them, there was no price.  No manager to give the price.  No way for me to buy them….Em nau!

Fun little things for school lunches, here is one of our grocery stores.  Toto, we are not in Kansas.

And later on Aug 19th

3pm party.  Em decorated the cake, she had been planning for months, and then she said it was better than she imagined.IMG_5891 IMG_5900 Games, cake, lots of friends and a sleep over, were Em’s wishes for her birthday.IMG_5902 IMG_5906 IMG_5912

Also she wanted macaroni and cheese and hot dogs for supper.  I was going to do homemade baked mac and cheese, but Praise God! a box arrived on Em’s b-day with kraft mac and cheese from Grandma and Grandpa!

August 19th

Em turns 11!

Present from Grammer and Papa, then back to bed for the traditional breakfast in bed.  Picnic lunch with another present!

Knitting party!

I pulled out some knitting needles for a friend to borrow, and 2 other friends said they wanted to learn to knit.IMG_5859 IMG_5860 IMG_5862 Dr Maggie and Dr Imdela learned to knit faster than anyone I have ever taught.  Really, like 30 seconds!  I don’t know if it because they know how to make bilums, or from knowing how to tie knots in surgery, or because they are just amazing people!

But we spent several hours that night and then a whole afternoon on Saturday knitting together.  We’ll have to do it again soon!

TORTILLA’S

I wanted to make enchiladas, was just about to convince myself to invest the 2 hours to make the tortillas home made….and along came a box from mom!

Karen had sent along 36!!! tortillas!

IMG_5855 IMG_5856 So, I eagerly made the enchiladas!  Then breakfast burritos for breakfast. The next night green chili enchiladas for company, and that is how 36 tortillas are gone in 3 days!

Thanks to family and God for this blessing!IMG_5858

Daisy

Daisy is a miracle story.

As she woke in the morning, she knew it was time for her baby to arrive.  Daisy went to the market area to wait for a car to bring her to the hospital.  It was then, that she felt her water break.  As she was seeking a private place to clean herself up, she realized that her baby’s foot had delivered already.

After a significant wait, they found a friend with a car to bring her to the hospital.  Daisy arrived at the hospital, knew she couldn’t wait in line, and made her way to the delivery ward.  She arrived, was quickly seen.  The doctor notified the surgery staff of the urgent need for a c/section.

The timing couldn’t have been better, they were just finishing a case in our only operating room.  The room was quickly cleaned, Daisy prepared and brought to the OR.

When her baby was delivered, it was very flat, not breathing, but a heart rate.  After some fervent prayers and resuscitation , the baby gasped and clutched tightly to life here on earth.

Thanks God for your protection on Daisy and her new little baby.

Kudjip Hospital Staff Appreciation Day

It was like Christmas morning, all the excitement, anticipation, and preparing leading up to the party.  The Hospital Administration Team had been planning for months.  They wanted to honor the hospital employees for their service and hard work at Kudjip.

Not wanting to leave anyone out, they prepared, shopped, and wrapped gifts for each and every employee.  Staff that had worked 10,15 and 20 years received a gift and a bronze, silver or gold medal recognizing their years of service.

It was a fabulous day.  A cherished time of letting our employees know how loved they are.  The pictures of staff are the 20 years of service people!
