Rats!

We got a lovely box from Scott's parents on Wednesday.
In the past, we have noticed edges of boxes chewed on.
This time the rats meant business!
This box left USA April 7th. Arrived at our house April 28th.
Somewhere along those 21 days, the box sat long enough for rats to chew through the box and the hard plastic jar to try to get to the mini snickers. The snickers seemed okay, no torn wrappers. So, the girls and Scott all enjoyed some of the chocolates last night.

Cooking with first graders

Last year, Emma was a first grader and I was able to do some cooking/math classes with her and her classmate. I decided that I would like to do this again this year with the 3 first graders. We had our first class yesterday and it was SO fun! One of the first graders was sick, so we missed her, but what a great time.
We went over rules of the kitchen, read the recipe, the kids did all the measuring, mixing, and adding. Then as an extra math bonus, we went up to the high school and elementary and sold the cookies. I went first and gave the kids various amounts of money and the first graders gave change.

Doughnuts for breakfast!

Okay, so this might not be such a big deal for the rest of the world, but it is a big thing in the Dooley house. Emma's favorite food is doughnuts (specifically Krispi Kremes) Since we are at least several thousand miles and dollars away from a doughnut store, we made some at home.
I mixed up the batter the night before. This recipe had me roll out and cut out the doughnuts, so I did that first thing Sat morning. Then Scott fried them. (I have stayed away from frying foods since a grease fire in the mid 90's)

The doughnuts were yummy! I liked them best plain, even though we had sweet cream, powdered sugar and icing for them.

I doubt we do doughnuts again any time soon, but it was a great breakfast, blog worthy since it only happens once in a blue moon.

The Pastors Offering.

Wednesday, all of the Nazarene pastors from this area brought together food for the hospital. You can see the new hospital in the background, which they are putting finishing touches on.

There was a little ceremony of presenting the food. The hospital administrator were so touched by this giving because pastors really have nothing here. Unless you pastor in your birth place, your house and garden are at the mercy of the generosity of others. Their giving was truly sacrificial. The pastors wanted to say thank you to the hospital for the free care that they receive here at Kudjip.

I tell you that pineapple we ate from them was the most delicious pineapple I had eaten in 6 years!

Women's meeting at Waghi Bridge Church

Wednesday Kathy, Jill, Olivia, Pastor Jerry and Suzanne head off to a women's gathering. Kathy, Jill and I were to share.
After a slight delay of waiting for the right people to arrive and sing a beautiful song and welcome us...we got started. The above picture was at the start of the service. At least double this many people were there after we got going.

A nice welcome and time of worship got us started. Olivia and I played with this cute boy behind us.

Jill shared a great devotional about truly loving others and God spoke to our hearts.
I talked about HIV next. They had a lot of questions and we had some good discussion. Suzanne translated for me into the local language. Unfortunately, I talked so long, Kathy just had time to share her main point and a beautiful song. But it was a great time together.
