Monday night celebration

 

Everything in PNG must have a ceremony of opening, a new road, a new hospital, new building, new store…so I thought it only fitting to have a “house remodel opening”.  We invited our friends, Matthew (who did the work) and his family.  I told him, “who ever is sleeping at your house tonight, bring them to supper”.  I should count my blessings that it wasn’t the entire village!  Here are his 2 daughters with Olivia.  His cutie son, Jimmy James, named after my dad.

And the rest of us!  It was a fun night.  Everyone was rolling and laughing out loud at Tom and Jerry cartoons.  Tom and Jerry have no trouble cross culturally!

MAY DAY!

I love May Day, I don’t know why.  Maybe I remember the excitement of making construction paper cones in 2nd grade, filling them with flowers and sneaking up to the other class rooms, knocking, leaving the flowers and running away.

So, every year, we share May Baskets around our little station.  I kept waiting for the right time on Saturday, between trips to the river, naps, friends visiting and the rain, we finally all loaded in the cruiser and headed out about 4:30pm.  

It was as much fun as usual.  Olivia is still wearing her pirate make up from the afternoon activities. 

Sermons lessons

 

This is my friend Lena, who is sporting a stocking hat that I knitted!  The church marked Lena to preach at her church.  Lena is not a pastor or scholar, but does a great job sharing with people.  She has preached several times, just not on Sunday mornings.   So, she wanted me to help her get a sermon together.  I thought she would have a topic or some verses or something, but not so much.  Friday morning we shared and I typed up some notes for her.  This was not the easiest task that I have ever done!  But we will pray that as she shares, she will speak from her heart, God’s word and people will grow.

Little remodel in the Dooley Kitchen

 

This is our friend Matthew.  Starting the work in our kitchen.  The cabinets and wall right in front  of him, he removed and now it looks like this!  I love it! My kitchen was pretty dark without windows and now I can see through the house!

To get or not to get your drivers license,,.

 

First step go to this building in Hagen.

Go inside, get a paper from this window, it is a very badly photocopied paper, but fill it out..

Then stand at “door number 3” there is no numbers, but you can handle counting.

   Then this guy gives you a very official stamp with a loud thunk and you have passed your driving test.

This is the drivers license that I have been carrying since 2003.

Then I have to go across town to the police barracks to pay the 60 kina charge for a license.  But alas…they close at 2 pm.  At 2:20, they will not help you.  So, Scott is going to town Friday, maybe he can pay for it when he renews his license.  

Kukan Church

This church is also named Ellen Memorial church, but Ellen is still alive, so I like to call it Kukan.

  Inside the church, most bush churches would not have pews, and to be honest, I would rather sit on the floor than the 1x8 backless bench, but it works.  

It was a great service, Scott shared some of our deputation sermon and the people were challenged.

If one is 4 1/2 years old, this is what one would wear to church. This is one mission cruiser that the missionaries share, that we drove to church It was a gorgeous Sunday morning!
